I agree that it's related to his shyness (like how people get sweaty hands when they are nervous...only for Makoto, it's more serious) because it only gets bad when he's nervous (especially around girls...Miyuki). I mean, there are similar elements in both movies (same actress and director, and similar plot), but they're not part of the same series. If someone hasn't seen either movie, I would suggest watching Windstruck first...even though My Sassy Girl came out first. :) I think so.
