Alternative Titles: Heavenly Forest, Just Loving You
Country: Japan, 2006
Director: Takehiko Shinjo
Cast: Aoi Miyazaki, Hiroshi Tamaki
Type: Romance, drama
Rating: 5/5

Summary: Makoto Segawa (Hiroshi Tamaki) is a shy and reserved university student who likes photography. He is uncomfortable around strangers, especially girls, and is a loner. He meets Shizuru Satonaka (Aoi Miyazaki) by chance on the side of the road and can’t get rid of her. She’s 21, but dresses and acts like a child. She sticks to him like a leech, and at first he’s uncomfortable, but he soon warms up to her. I think it’s because of her childlike attitude and random/funny things she says. Anyways, she takes up photography and they find a forest in which they spend a lot of time together taking pictures.

There’s also a love triangle (as there always is). Miyuki (Kuroki Meisa) is a pretty girl from their university and she likes Makoto Segawa and it seems that Makoto also likes her. So, at first there’s tension between Miyuki and Shizuru, but they become friends at the end.

Impressions: Ahhh! I really liked the ending because it’s so beautiful. I would really like to spoil it, but I’ve decided not to because it’s too special. The forest is really pretty and I liked her photography (she took portraits while Makoto took landscape pictures). This movie talked about friendship and opening up to people. It also talked about sacrifice and pursuing one’s dreams. I really liked this movie because it showed human pain and how the characters dealt with it.

You can watch it on crunchyroll.com or youtube.com

p.s. If you like this movie, try Renai Shashin, a Japanese movie which Tada Kimi is supposed to be based on (info)(review of Renai Shashin)

I agree! My sister thought the ending was bad, but I like the bittersweetness of it.

This is one of my favorite japanese movies :) everything is just too beautiful don’t you think? I cried buckets during the last part of the show XD

Aoi Miyazaki is sooooo beautiful and Tamaki Hiroshi is just love ♥

Have you watched Virgin Snow (with Aoi Miyazaki)? It’s similar to this. Also, watch Windstruck (korean). You will cry! Those movies have really nice scenery, too.

    @movingelephants
i think windstruck story is pre-requisite for my sassy girl (k-film too),
    right ? :)

I think so. I mean, there are similar elements in both movies (same actress and director, and similar plot), but they’re not part of the same series. If someone hasn’t seen either movie, I would suggest watching Windstruck first…even though My Sassy Girl came out first. :)

In the story, Makoto has something like a skin disease on his tummy…I figure that’s one of the reasons why he’s so shy…but i wonder what kind of disease that is…doe anyone know? im just curious…because the story did not reveal his (should i call it disease?) clearly…

  8. movingelephants Says:

Yeah, I remember his skin problem…but it seems to have disappeared later on in the movie. I agree that it’s related to his shyness (like how people get sweaty hands when they are nervous…only for Makoto, it’s more serious) because it only gets bad when he’s nervous (especially around girls…Miyuki). Also, Shizuru made him feel comfortable, so that’s why it wasn’t bad when he was with her (I don’t think it bothered him at all). haha, it’s probably a made-up disease :P
